About Cyber Safety Awareness Training

The CareerSafe Online Cyber Safety Awareness Training (for Individuals) course provides students with the education, awareness, and resources it takes to stay safe while in the digital world. There is a direct relationship between the advancement of technology and a heightened online risk for young, inexperienced youths. The program covers topics like cyberbullying, sexting, and the consequences of school threats as well as several other pertinent, timely topics that students today face. Each grade will have age-appropriate scenarios for each of the course topics.

6th Grade Course
Introduction to Cyber Safety
  • Recognize that you are creating a “Digital Footprint” for yourself that can last forever.
  • Identify the risks that arise from interacting online with people you don’t know.
  • Recognize the ways in which online piracy occurs, and the dangers associated with this.
  • Recognize if you have a strong password.
  • Recognize the dangers of being distracted when walking and driving because of your mobile device.


Cyberbullying

Given current events, the student will be able to readily identify cyberbullying concepts and explain the importance of keeping the school environment free from cyberbullying. Specifically, the student should be able to:

  • Recognize when cyberbullying is occurring.
  • Recognize the various technology-based media/channels through which cyberbullying happens.
  • Identify types of cyberbullying.
  • Select the best alternatives for addressing cyberbullying.
  • Identify ways to help protect yourself from cyberbullying.
  • Identify situations when you must report cyberbullying.


Sexting

Given connected devices and scenarios, you will be able to explain the importance of protecting yourself and your peers from sexting. Specifically, you should be able to:

  • Identify sexting.
  • Recognize the forms of sexting.
  • Recognize how sexting can become public and harm your image and relationship with others.
  • What you should do if you receive a sexual image or message.
  • Identify questions to ask yourself before sending or forwarding sexual images or messages.
  • Identify situations where sending or forwarding messages may lead to consequences with the law.


Sexual Harassment

Given current events, the student will be able to explain the importance of keeping the school environment free from the hazards of sexual harassment. Specifically, the student should be able to:

  • Recognize when sexual harassment is occurring.
  • Identify types of sexual harassment.
  • Select the best alternatives for addressing sexual harassment.
  • Identify the law that protects you from sexual harassment.


School Threats

Given current events, the student should be able to explain the ramifications of making school threats. Specifically, the student should be able to:

  • State the consequences of making threats against their school.
